Because development and monitoring of these system cost and it wont be worth while if you can monitize it. I used to develop the SMS to DoCoMo/Jphone messaging (Philippine to Japan) for Globe/Smart/Sun which is actually translating SMS to email and back -- so i do know what problems you'll be facing, that's why youre better off with MMS rather than using this hack.
Roger, my point was not that your MMS suggestion is wrong. My point is that, if the market is local, most of the local phones are not MMS capable. Of course Docomo is a completely different story. I assumed the recipients would be local.
