I do not know if Ubuntu (6.06/6.10) ships with IPW firmware. From
experience, I know that 6.06/6.10 has support for the Intel Pro/Wireless
ipw2200 that works immediately after installation, whereas, I had to
download all of ipw2200 / ieee80211 / intel firmware, in order to get FC6 to
even recognize my Intel Pro / Wireless. Let's ask Jerome Gotamco. Maybe
he knows if Ubuntu has Intel firmware built into 6.06./6.10. Jerome?

I just did a `modinfo ipw{2200,3945} | grep license` and they show up
as both GPL; same with ieee80211. I think the old versions of ipw2200
were indeed restricted, but the newer ones (since Hoary I think) are
fully GPLed.
