For an easy mail toaster with nice admin tools, you may evaluate
QmailToaster [1] or QmailRocks [2]

In my experience, Cyrus-imapd greatly improves speed in accessing web
based mails. I have tried it with 11,000 mails so far and the
performance hasn't changed (still fast).
