Hi Guys,

The next foss bill hearing is set on the 29th of
November, same rooms(7&8), same time(9:30am).

Rumor has it that lobbying funds has started flowing
to drown the foss bill. So now we know why that tech
article in inq7 was written as if it was written by
PSIA(Phil. Software Industry Alliance).

The position of PSIA is not surprising, anyway. They
think that the foss bill, if passed, will deal a big
blow to their profits and their very own existence.

Well, the lines are being drawn right now. It's time
to make a stand. a call for unity is in order.

Here's what we can do in our own little way:

1. As an organization, make an institutional stand,
and send it to the Committee on ICT of the House of
Representatives. Send that too, to the same Committee
in the Philippine Senate. Send that as a letter to the
editor in Phil. Daily Inquirer and other broadsheets.
While we cannot match their bribing/lobbying of
journalists, we can launch our own guerilla warfare
for the foss bill.

2. I suggest that FOSS companies make a similar
alliance ala PSIA, and make their own position
regarding the bill. Drop me a line(0922.816.0676) if
any of you are interested. Our office is very much
willing to help in forging that alliance.

3. For those who are in government offices who are
using foss, kindly share your experiences, savings(if
any), anything that can enlighten Congress and its
members to take our side.

4. We should also organize more fora/discussions not
just on the merits of the foss bill, but more so on
the viability, security, reliability,
cost-effectiveness, etc. of foss.

On 23 November 2006, 9:00 am, our office is inviting
everyone who wants to help in one way or another, for
a discussion/preparation for the hearing on the 29th.
Kindly confirm your attendance asap so we can arrange
a venue large enough to accomodate us all.

I am attaching the PSIA's position paper, as well as
the statement of CICT Chairman Sales.

regards to all,
