Pathetic isn't it? But there is still hope though because not
everybody is contented with our current educational system. :-)
Unfortunately, I would like to think that the education problem cannot
be solved by stop-gap solutions. Yes, definitely we can solve it one
step at a time, but without a general direction and plan, we're
doomed.
Until that's done, no number of laptops can solve the education
problem our country has been facing for the longest time.

AMEN to that. My 4 year old kid knows how to play mr. potato head,
enjoys GCompris and other games bundled with Edubuntu (at home).
he goes to a private pre-school where the student:pc ratio is 1:5.
I have evaluated other schools with better curriculum, but choosing
between an 80k per annum tuition fee (that teaches Chinese Pinyin) vs
40k that teaches the standard "let us pray"; "good moral' framework , i
chose the latter.
It may also be the lack of penetration into lower level education like
pre-school and elementary that has hindered the PC literacy of most
pinoys. As for the most of us, if I may ascertain, may not have learned
what we know now if not for self study and self training and not the
education system (or it may have helped in making us quaff for more
knowledge).
