The LSB is a specification, not an organization. The LSB isn't really
perfect - it touches on a lot of areas that implements or extends POSIX
standards, along with some userland stuff like placement of applications
(the FHS), package management, etc. 

Given that there's a lot of distributions around, politics would surely
creep in. At the very least, you'd have to commend them for the effort
of reaching a standard - not all will have the same level of compliance,
nor all would accept it without question on technical merit.
