Hi fellow BSD user and welcome to our GNU/Linux Mailing List!

i appreciate your effort on providing a quality link to support your
argument. BUT i'm not quite sure if you really read the document
you've just provided which clearly emphasizes ___Fake___RAID,
a Hardware RAID emulation usually done via __proprietary__ drivers
(binary only / closed source) as provided by the OEM or can also
be done via the kernel's _software_RAID_ driver_.

on NetBSD, a software RAID driver which can support modes
0, 1, 4, 5 is called (CMU) RAIDframe.
http://www.netbsd.org/guide/en/chap-rf.html

a __Fake__RAID__ controller is a Fake RAID controller even if the
OEM provides the user with a driver or even if it is directly supported
on Linux, *BSD or Windows (or even if you refer to it as "BUILT-IN"
SATA RAID). no wonder, _both_ the Linux and *BSD communities
are _not_recommending_ the use of these controllers. so just avoid
buying one.

if you're still thinking why there are no "direct" linux drivers for these
Fake RAIDs, it's because they are already supported via the kernel's
Software RAID driver since these controllers are basically just a
Software RAID or a Fake Hardware RAID.

here's a comprehensive list of SATA RAID controllers tagged as
real or fake (courtesy of Rick Moen) that may serve as a reference:
http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html

with regards to the device drivers you've mentioned, would you
like to elaborate the specific device models? because some of
the models of these devices are considered as FakeRAID which
requires proprietary / closed-source / binary-only drivers such as
_a320raid_ , _aarich_ . while those Real RAID controllers from
Adaptec are supported directly on Linux via the _aacraid_ driver.

speaking of Adaptec RAID controllers, you might want to listen
to an OpenBSD song regarding their frustration with Adaptec
driver development.

"Hackers of the Lost RAID"
ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/songs/song38.mp3

Lyrics:
http://www.openbsd.org/lyrics.html#38

after listening to the song, perhaps you'll realize that you're
barking at the wrong tree, and a victim of a Fake RAID.

anyway, enjoy! =D

What ever filesystem you got on Linux, if the storage driver is not

Fact:

Some built-in SATA-RAID now a days is not supported on Cent-OS,
therefore you have to do software raid just to use it. Ouch! that
sucks!
