Yeah, it's kind of sad. Perl still has a lot of life left in it but it's no longer the flavour of the month/year/decade. I sometimes feel antiquated for still using Perl, but the advance of Java is inexorable. That said, Java ain't so bad. I'm actually getting used to it. I sure miss the lexing and parsing capabilities of Perl, but Java is much faster so it evens out. About 100% more code lines but 50% faster runtime, in my own tests. And you get nice IDE's. A worthwhile tradeoff, in my opinion.
