For the love of $DEITY, please use a different client than what Yahoo
provides and claims as the official client for Linux. For one thing,
although their distribution provides sources, it's been well outdated
and outfeatured by other open-source clients. For another, according
to their Freshmeat profile,[1] it appears that upstream has ceased
  developing it further.

For your specific problem, the issue about libssl and xlibs appears
simply because there *are* no libssl0.9.6 and xlibs anymore in Debian
since the opening of the Etch development branch (maybe even earlier,
iirc.) Xlibs has been refactored into several libx* and libx*-dev
packages, thanks to X modularization, while libssl0.9.8 has obsoleted
  libssl0.9.6.

If you're so determined to use Yahoo's official client, you will
probably need to rebuild it from Debianized source. _But wait_, there
is *no* source available, even from the official client page.[2]

I guess the other choice would be to revert to Debian Woody then...

  Cheers,

  Zakame
