I've been playing with Acme[1] for some time now, and it doesn't have those oh-gee-whiz features. It does have Sam's[2] command language though (which I'm learning,) and cut-and-paste works via either the plumber or the snarf buffer. Mouse chords help too. About remote editing, Acme (and Sam) does it through the filesystem by simply mounting the remote filesystem and binding it to some local namespace. No need for X11, just 9P (there's v9fs support on the Linux kernel, so you can probably serve a filesystem under it and let a remote Acme connect for editing.) Yes, I'm playing with Plan 9. I'm sending this mail via Emacs though. :P Cheers, Zakame Footnotes: [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acme_(text_editor) [2] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_(text_editor) -- Zak B.
