Hi Greg.

Yes it will work but that's not all. Don't worry. It's very smooth and easy.

I assume you're using the stable branch. Then you should have in your /etc/apt/sources.list something like:

        deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib
        deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ stable main
        deb-src http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ stable main

Yes? Then you're fine. Stay there. :) I only have those three, btw. And I'm happy! :D You can omit the third line actually unless you're also getting sources. Most people don't. If you don't have it, ignore it. :)

If you have deb lines referencing your old Sarge discs like:

        deb file:///cdrom/ sarge main
deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 r2 _Sarge_ - Official i386 Binary-1 (20060419)]/ unstable contrib main

it's time to remove them now. :)

Let's Get It On(tm).

1. If you're on X, quit X.
        - quit all your open apps
        - logout
        - Force quit X (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace)

2. Login as root.

3. apt-get update

4. apt-get -u upgrade

5. apt-get -u dist-upgrade

6. Answer some questions.

7. Enjoy.

:)

Gari

how am I going to upgrade to Debian 4.0 Etch without going through the

Thanks.
