The chipset was printed in the box. The box actually had two chipsets printed:
the Philips SAA713x and the BT8something with the Philips marked as the chipset
used in the card inside.

Since it is broadcast lang, I had MythTV set up to capture at 480x480 at 30fps
(or 29.something). I have read up that NTSC signal can give you 480x480 max
only compared to higher resolutions from DV cameras.

I'm planning to use MythTV to capture the videos and convert it to MPEG4. So
far, it's the best one I found that is in the Ubuntu repositories, though I
can't seem to make it record for 2 hours straight when I'm just manually
initiating a recording -- which is keeping me from digitizing my videos. For
just watching tv, tvtime is ok.

I also use kino when transfering videos from a miniDV camcorder using firewire.

Is the type of chip printed on box or did you find this out after booting linux?
How many frames per second can you record at 640x480 resolution? Can
you record a TV broadcast (not cable)?
