usually live distros have a memtest option. You can choose which ever distro-cd you prefer. But, my guess is your cd-drive can't read the media. Other machines might be able to read it, it just so happens that some cd-drives are more picky. try copying the cd to another media, prefereably a cd-r, because cd-rw's have a lower rate of acceptance on some cd-drives.
