In Kubuntu, sharing is quite easy in the Systems Settings up.  You can setup 
either an NFS or Samba share or both without touching any config files by hand.

yes, ubuntu is quite nice and if you like bleeding edge technologies but if i 
were you i'll use debian instead but that's just me :D
