This is off-topic and should be in plug-misc. Anyway.... Athlon can throttle down to the HT freq., this is 1GHz except for 800MHz for Socket754. You can look up the P-states for your prospective models in the power/thermal datasheet here: http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/30430.pdf For me, I'm not in a hurry to upgrade to X2. Since I'm power conscious and the X2 throttle down to 40+ watts while the single core go down to 27+ watts. I'll wait for when unused cores are fully powered down, as proposed by AMD for new CPU designs, before going multi-core. Also don't expect prices to go up, they'll go down further as newer, better models are introduced.
