Good day! Can you pls guide me how I can change the configuration of metacity without resorting to a GUI like gconf-editor? I was able to edit the characteristics of metacity, the default window manager of Ubuntu 6.10 by running gconf-editor in shell and when the gconf-editor GUI pops-up, I go to apps->metacity->general, then edit the content of button_layout, making the corresponding value to close:minimize, maximize (note no space after the comma before 'maximize', original entry was menu:minimize, maximize, close). The effect is that of the old Mac classic window, where the close button is on the left, while the others are on the right, so you know that when you click on the left, you're definitely not going to just 'accidentally' close the current window (which usually happens when just click on the buttons on the right, hoping to minimize/maximize the display then realize it was actually the close button you clicked). Editing configuration text files was supposed to be the strength/flexibility of Linux/*BSD/UNIX over other systems and I'd highly appreciate your help. Thanks!
