Any more information on this Adaptec HW RAID controller? Product
numbers and such? If it's a fakeraid, as many of these controllers are
(especially if they're SATA), you're better off not using it at all.
This "hardware RAID" is actually implemented in the BIOS firmware,
making it functionally no different from the Linux software RAID
implementation, and in most cases, far less efficient and reliable to
boot!

Anyway, provided it's a true hardware RAID, you shouldn't need to
create an OS level RAID during installation, and you should see the
disk as a single device. If it's fakeraid, chances are the Linux kernel
won't recognize it as a single device, and instead see as many volumes
as you have disks in your system, and you should instead disable RAID
in your BIOS (to prevent further problems) and then use Linux software
RAID on the individual disks.
