it can be a good exercise (at least you'll project an image that you're waiting for, i mean doing, something hehehe).
one of the largest software maker in the world requires that you have compiled the linux kernel hundreds, if not thousands(?), of times using various configurations, patches, optimizations,etc. before they'll consider you for the job position and yet, they even don't have their own distro. intriguing, isn't it?
