In my case, Ubuntu Hoary Hedgehog 2 years ago did not have the
necessary SATA support compiled (static) in the kernel, nor in the
default init ramdisk (it was compiled as a module). I had to include
the SATA-support module in the initrd so that I could put my root FS
on a SATA drive. I believe this was fixed in Breezy Badger.
