i get where you are coming from. And you are right. That is indeed
true. There are a lot of OSS projects that are quite simply not up to
the task or are not mature enough. but it's up to us to decide which
one's to use right?

once upon a time, linux in general wasn't mature. I remember the days
of going through hell just to get Gnome to run--- heck to just to
boot a box. Apache wasn't mature. Python. PHP. GCC. the success these
projects have right now--- didn't get happen over night.

sometimes--- like the case of graphics drivers, the companies
themselves are withholding information. anyway, the simplistic answer
to your point... is to contribute code or bug reports or whatever. be
part of the community. that's the beauty of OSS, we're a community
first.

Clustering isn't a new science. heck, clustering wasn't even invented
by Linux or by the Beowulf group. it's been around since the days
when Apple and Microsoft were nobodies. This Art of Clustering isn't
easy. never meant to be. HA, HPC/HTC are technologies that are not
common for the common soul. i'm certain HP, and Sun and Oracle are
great at what they do. It is after all their bread and butter. It
would be great if everyone could use their tools. Heck, companies
exist that specialize in Linux Clustering. Sometimes that kind of
tech is just way over every people's budgets or need. So they do what
people do: they find a way. i'm not saying Linux is the poor man's
tool. I'm saying, Linux and the tools associated with linux distros
is a way for people to create, innovate, and accomplish their work.

to go back: think a project sucks--- but you need it? use it.
contribute to it. Make it the way you think it should be or help it
get there.

cheers!
