I've read some articles that say the binary drivers don't work
well with Compiz, but I'll see if I can check that out.

It's faster than logging in and out every time one user wants to
use the computer. For example I can have an open IM session with
a sound alert. When a message arrives I can interrupt the other
user temporarily to answer the IM.
