Iif we can teach more things to some of the poor maybe they can help themselves out of poverty. The computer will not stop droughts and typhoons but maybe the children can help the parents prepare better for the oncoming onslaught. of the disasters. If the children know how to build better houses, live in areas where the likely hood of a Flash Flood, Land slide are reduced then when they get older they will make better decisions and the out come will be less poverty. Learning things like when sex is safe will also reduce the number of children in the larger families, thus help them support themselves. Education is only one step in a very large problem. For years people have said we should use biofuels but now the UN world food program has said it is the wrong step since places where food was produced now they grow plants for fuel. Each step has a plus and a minus. I think it is better to try what we can at each step, After Live Aid 1 It was successful even with the corruption it did save lives, Even the Hurricane Katrina disaster had corruption in the helping of the people. It may not work in all the world but if it helps 10% of the people who get a computer then it is a success, Each year here i hear the same thing we dont have enough text books we dont have enough pens pencils. If each child has a computer which is wind up then each child will have a text book. It may cost alot in comparision to books and pens at the start but 100 Dollars is about 5000 Pesos. It costs more each year to send my 3 year old to Kindergarten. If in grade 1 Every child gets one, People will not steal them and it will help in the over all education costs. How many of us check out Wikipedia or other internet sources, The children need this training and resources to help them get a proper education. And 5000 peso's maybe alot to some families this is why they want to reduce the cost and donate some to special areas. Take this as an example all the Private schoos in MM could sponsor a school in the province. so for 300 students here they can sponsor 150 in a school in a province. Quite quickly every child would have one.
