if you're thinking of using linux as the router/firewall... consider shorewall. makes iptables easy: just edit the config files. you can point it to a static ip. you'll need at least 2 NICs on your linux box. command line, easy to configure files (text-based), good documentation, masquerading, nat.... etc. easy enough to keep track. their website has all the gory details.
