SOX compliance on a Linux server would be much easier/cheaper than on a windows box.
I saw a nice box on sangem web site for tapping into your E1 T1 Lines Sangoma T1/E1 Line Tapping System http://www.sangoma.com/datasheets/tapping Auditing can be done in so many ways, on a Linux - Unix box much more than could be possible on a Windows box. You can go into the kernel even and modify that for compliance if you needed. Samba Logging for Audit Trails April 1st, 2004 by Edward Kablaoui in Security http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/7251 Conclusion Samba provides a reasonable alternative to using Windows 2000 servers on a network to manage Windows clients. The primary advantage of Samba over Windows is the ability to modify the Samba source code to create a system tailored for a specific computing need. It also offers network administrators the ability to troubleshoot the network at the source code level. None of this is possible when using proprietary software, a huge drawback in configuring and debugging services on a network. All of these factors add up to large cost savings in both licensing fees and network administration time. And that article was written in 2004 think of how much it has all changed now.. Auditing for Samba http://thwartedefforts.org/software/samba/samba-audit.html And this was written back in 2000... Also i just ran into a problem with upgrading an accounting program the company does not support more than 3 Product versions in history. Therefore we may have to pay to convert the data after we have already purchased their product.. And shock horror its not Microsoft.. _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
