Have your tried using the OpenChrome or Unichrome driver from the repo? If
not, try them.

Subject: [plug] ubuntu having problems with via chrome 9 video card

Hi guys,

I am going to change my distro to ubuntu and use a different system. The new
system (notebook) utilizes an onboard via chrome9 video card. When i booted up
the installation disk it goes into a black screen and stays that way. I tried
using my old distro, Mandriva, and i discovered that I am having problems with
the video. I was able to run mandriva using a vesa driver but not the via
chrome9 one. And it is a pain. Once I log out I still get a black screen. I'm
guessing that I might be having the same problem with ubuntu. Now I want this
to run on my notebook using chrome9 instead of vesa. Also I want to use ubuntu
this time.

Has anyone encountered this problem?

Thanks.

Jubert
