Not in the Live CD. It is a separate CD image available from ubuntu.com ----- Original Message ---- From: beryto delrio <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Technical Discussion List <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 11:02:45 Subject: Re: [plug] ubuntu having problems with via chrome 9 video card
alternate installer.. its also included with the ubuntu installer right? Thanks a million On Fri, Mar 28, 2008 at 10:15 AM, Michael Tinsay <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Try booting the Live CD using Safe Graphics Mode which, I think, would use the VESA drivers. If this doesn't work, you'll need to install via Text Mode using the alternate installer -- but this would most probably also install the same video driver that the Live CD uses. If this happens, boot into (1) Recovery Mode, (2) install either xserver-xorg-video-openchrome or xserver-xorg-video-unichrome, (3) then do "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" to have it use the newly installed driver. You may have to do this a number of times. You may also try the available drivers in viaarena.com. --- mike t. ----- Original Message ---- From: beryto delrio <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Technical Discussion List <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 9:28:59 Subject: Re: [plug] ubuntu having problems with via chrome 9 video card Thats the thing. I'm using install CD and it goes straight into that. Was not even able to start the installation for ubuntu. For mandriva i think ill try using an updated driver just as you said. But i really want to run ubuntu in my notebook. On Fri, Mar 28, 2008 at 9:01 AM, Michael Tinsay <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Have your tried using the OpenChrome or Unichrome driver from the repo? The new system (notebook) utilizes an onboard via chrome9 video card. When i booted up the installation disk it goes into a black screen and stays that way. I tried using my old distro, Mandriva, and i discovered that I am having problems with the video. I was able to run mandriva using a vesa driver but not the via chrome9 one. And it is a pain. Once I log out I still get a black screen. I'm guessing that I might be having the same problem with ubuntu. Now I want this to run on my notebook using chrome9 instead of vesa. Also I want to use ubuntu this time. Has anyone encountered this problem? Thanks.
