yeah, i considered using wubi as well, but i grew up using RH7.3 so i wasn't too sure i was ready to switch to a debian-based distro (it's in my to-do list, though, to try out different flavors). well, i've created my recovery disk so i'll have to hope and see if i can install FC8 onto the external HDD and have it boot properly without destroying the local Vista. thanks all!
