Hi, I'm hoping to solicit some suggestions/advice.
I have a notebook with Windows Vista installed primarily since my wife needs Office. I can't partition my HDD to dual boot since I can't find my copy of PartitionMagic anymore (plus I think it will void my warranty). Here's what I have (or hope to do): a) I have FC8 running in VMWare. This is okay but at times it can run slow. Besides, one of my pet projects is to have Windows running under Xen, so it doesn't make much sense to me to have Xen/FC8 running under VMWare running Windows. b) I "burned" a copy of the FC8 LiveCD onto my thumbdrive and I'm able to boot from it (small victory for me! yehey!), but I still don't have my multiple terminals that I can Alt+F# to. Plus I can't install/update/remove apps that I use/want to learn. [I know, Ubuntu can be made persistent on a thumbdrive, and so can FC9 beta, but even with it persistent, will I still be able to install/update/remove apps?] c) Last option I can think of -- and which I'm hoping will work -- is to install my FC8 onto my FreeAgent Go external HDD so that I can dual-boot. My main worry about trying this is if the MBR will be able to find the external HDD to call GRUB and if my FC8 will run without a hitch on the external HDD. So am I stuck with just running xoblite and cygwin/X to give my Vista a Linux feel :( ? Thanks!
