if you want your file server as an authenticating machine, then join your
samba to a ADS or PDC, or you can make it as a PDC.
it depends on how you setup your file server, if you want a single protocol
then CIFS/Samba can do, you know MAC/Linux supports it. If you need a multi
protocol then install each protocol for each specific system, that is
samba,NFS,Appletalk or you can use also ftp, telnet,ssh...
This is not really difficult, the interesting part is how you play with your
ACL. something like, any users can write but cannot delete unless he is the
owner..
