I gave a second look at the instructions from this page:
http://tek4dpipol.blogspot.com/2008/04/ubuntu-hardy-on-lenovo-g400.html.

I did some changes with the order of the steps.  And also instead of using
the driver from Dell, I tried to use the Windows driver supplied with the
laptop.

Now it works.  Now I am getting 46 Mbps plus speed.
