in the olden days of ltsp i used to enable swap over nfs to keep those
16mb p100 clients from hanging when students gimp, mozilla, and
openoffice too much.  the result was that the terminal would just
freeze for some seconds, then run again.  without nfs_swap the
terminals would just hang, needing a reset.  maybe X needed more
memory to display plenty of objects?
