Thanks for the reply...

no the machine can still be on.. my /home is 100% already and the entire
hard disk is soon to be comsumed.  In fact both machine are on and I did scp
the config files from my old server to the new one... but still doesn't
work, because I can remember there are some more things I did to make that
debian box to be my domain controller.
