I learned Linux bit by bit when I was consciously trying to move away from Windows. I got the feel of using it while trying to do those things that I usually do in Windows (watching videos, listening to music, browsing the web, software development, etc). When there's something that I cannot solve by myself, I usually ask help from forums, mailing-lists, and from the more experiences devs around me. Of course, there's also google and the man pages. So it might be a good idea to point the person to the resources, like teaching a man how to fish.
Same with what Philip mentioned, have him install a Linux distro and let him poke around it for a while. Consider teaching it for free as a way of giving back to the community, unless it's really for training a bunch of people for a company. Cheers, -- Randell Benavidez http://nullpointer.ph/
