If python is running, I expect my application to run properly. I hope
I'm right in thinking this... Thanks for the tip. The only netbook I've
seen that comes with Ubuntu installed is Neo 3633 (one of the cheapest,
at P10,200 in some shops). The others either come with some Windows
variant, or with no OS except Free Dos.

I imagine if more Linux diehards went to shops looking for Linux
installed on a machine (even if you aren't actually in the market for
one), the shops would start thinking there's a larger market for Linux
than they thought, and perhaps install it in more display machines. I
always do this whenever I go into a shop, just to see how a salesman
would react.

By the way, I heard that some shops are bound by contract to pay
royalties based on the number of machines sold, whether or not Windows
is installed in those machines. If this is true, there's absolutely no
reason for a shop to take the extra trouble of installing Linux, as
there will be no savings either for them or the buyer. I heard that
shops who earlier had been caught making copies had no choice but to
sign these contracts as part of the confidential settlement. If there's
a shop owner here who knows if this is true, can you drop me a private
note please? I want to write something about it. I'll keep my sources
confidential of course.

Greetings to all,

Obet
