chris, once you fixed your filesystem... when you have terabytes of storage
(in your case 6 x 500gb x 3/5 for raid 6 which is approximately 1.8
terabytes)... avoid non-journaling filesystem such as ext2 and ext3 as
doing fsck for a corrupt filesystem in terabytes in size takes time.... use
ext4 or other journaling file system available in Linux as recovery time is
much faster...
