I've been able to run Gnome just fine in my 512 MB laptop, but it's much snappier with WindowMaker. I liked XFCE 4.2 but 4.4 is a bit "heavy" for me. :) But I think I'm going to put Fedora on the 512 just so I have a Fedora machine to play with. I'm doing a lot of stuff these days that needs to work on Ubuntu, Fedora and openSUSE, and it helps to have all of them available. -- M.
