I prefer the openness of the OpenWrt development and the massive
selection of packages, though I have very limited experience with
ddwrt. I spend a lot of time working on OpenWrt, sort of an edge
developer. Using, build-testing, minor bug fixing.

If you are doing "standard" things and need or want a pretty
interface, ddwrt is probably going to do fine for you. I personally
don't like ddwrt's "activation" meme. To me, it violates the spirit
of FOSS even if it is waved or easy to evade.

OpenWrt runs on practically everything (that linux can run on and that
has >=4M of flash), you can easily check it out and compile it
yourself. To me, it is extremely flexible and has good developer
support. There is a pretty web interface called luci, though I don't
use that either, so I can't characterize it.
