It seems that comcast.net, hydrogendiscoveries.com, and other
email domains are served by servers that bounce if there is
any kind of non fatal delay. What is going on? You don't
bounce simply because the destination server told you to wait.
Like I said though, comcast.net and a lot of other domains
bounce if there is any delay for any reason.

If this is true, grey listing is out. I have been using sqlgrey
and it has been at least slowing down junk email. When it is on
though, I am probably delaying or stopping more legitimate email
than junk.

I asked if grey listing makes the spam problem worse, but that
didn't generate any interest. The spammers are obviously
retrying to defeat grey listing. I check the spamcop.net and
dnsbl.sorbs.net blacklists, but that clearly isn't enough.

Because of the way smtp is set up over the Net, it is extremely
rude to reply to the random email that comes in with a go to this
site and authenticate your message message. It would be terrible
if I was doing that and slipped up so that the administrator of
the plug list got such an email. The point of asking people to
authenticate their message is that I might be able to stop
random emails from email bots.

I have SPF checks turned on and if I don't recognize the domain
of the sender, I reject. I am at a loss. I use Postfix.

Black listing every possible email address and only white listing
those that I know are legit would almost certainly stop the spam,
but it would make it difficult to receive email from new sources
or even old sources when someone's email address changes.

How do you discourage people/bots that try to send to addresses
you don't support anymore? How do you get solicitors trying to
sell stuff you don't want or need to leave your email box alone?
If I didn't know any better, I'd say that my email address is
getting harvested. Maybe someone on this list has decided to
target me specifically. On the other hand, it could just be
zombie computers that are virus ridden and hooked up to the Net.

Would it be appropriate to fire off a reply immediately or 5xx
someone who is trying to reach a mailbox I don't support? How
would I go about doing that? How do I fight the spammers who
are dictionary attacking me? If I continue to change the email
addresses I support, I will eventually run out of choices.
Varying the email address is not the answer, but I don't know
what is.
