But at the end it popped up a message "Failed to Print Document: Too many failed attempts." (There are no jobs in the print queue.) That kind of behavior is typical of Evince. And if I ever do get it to print something it cuts off the bottom of the page, or prints landscape when the document is portrait, or some other mess.
