I also use Debian unstable on my desktops. Sometimes you update and something major breaks, but usually it's something you can work around until it's fixed and another update comes along. > I spent this morning trying the live CD of Sidux. The keyboard is usually a much faster way to interface with a computer than a mouse is. Therefore my X sessions are built around lots and lots of terminals. No point in dealing with buggy GUIs that just take up resources and screen real estate. After you get settled in to a distro/release, whatever it is, take some time to go out and really shop for a window manager. I try to do this once every couple of years. I currently use fluxbox, but I haven't gone shopping in a while. If you can find a window manager that you like which doesn't have a crapload of Gnome and KDE dependencies, you might just find that your systems are much more stable and easier to maintain. Both of those projects are a mess of dependencies. > And no Synaptic. What's up > with removing Synaptic? Debian without Synaptic is like beer without > alcohol. Aptitude is quite good. You have to learn a few key strokes, but it has all of the Synaptic features AFAIK. It's also a lot easier to use via SSH... tim _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
