The public is so conditioned by the last 15 years of Microsoft that they can't think straight and are too lazy to look for other choices.
I do what I can to get new users to try Linux. I've used at least 10 different distros and the best one for new users is Linux Mint. I would say that 3 in 10 clients that I help with their computers will give Linux a try. Burn copies of Linux Mint 8 and give them out anyone who seems interested.
