My preference is Debian. I think it has a great pkg mgmt system, it's 
very stable,
and there's tons of docs / how-to's. Also, many other distros are 
derived from it. It's what I
cut my Linux teeth on and I haven't found a compelling reason to use 
another distro outside
of general curiosity...
