Frank, Depending on what you need to run on the box the Toshiba Satellite L455-S5975 (that model number just rolls of the tongue, doesn't it?) might suit you. It has a Celeron 900 CPU (the -...76 model has an AMD processor), 2G RAM, 250M hard drive, wireless, cd/dvd drive, a 15.6" wide screen and a low price. We paid $329 at Best Buy; it was on sale that day (or week) and might be again. It is somewhat-happily running Xubuntu-9.10. I write 'somewhat' because, unlike the two previous portables whose wifi came from the PCMCIA card and had no difficulties communicating from the back to the front of the house, this box does not consistently have a sufficiently strong radio signal. No one knows why. Regardless, it's a good unit for my wife's needs and we just put up with the changing signal strength from the den in the back of the house.
