Step 1: check your /etc/resolv.conf file, and make sure it is pointing to the correct nameservers. Do you have a static IP, or are you set up with the usual DHCP configuration? Maybe simply releasing and renewing your DHCP lease would fix it, since DHCP reqrites resolv.conf. I can ping comcast.net (from Pocatello, Idaho, connected via CableOne).
