I would like to replace my quickbooks (qb) with something that runs natively
on Linux.

There are many accounting packages for Linux, and some of them look pretty
good, but when I examine them closely, I judge them too risky to commit the
time and resources to convert to them.

I've taken a shot at changing quickbooks to gnucash, by setting up the
appropriate accounts and entering the Jan 1,2010 balances. I'll have to
keep quickbooks around to look up things in the past. (There are procedures
to convert the qb data but they seem to laborious and/or lossy to use.)

My question to the group is: Does anyone have experience with (or knowledge
of) using gnucash or other linux accounting package to run a small service
business? Small, meaning large enough to need accounts for receivables,
payroll, checking, savings, but too small to have or rent a bookkeeper.

Thanks.
