Well, looks like I have LAHF instructions. Thanks for the tip though. Oddly enough, the hulu desktop app works where firefox 64 bit with 64 bit flash doesn't. Hunh. I kinda jumped through the EULA on hulu desktop where it looks like it might be somewhat worrisome. Some rumors persist googling around about hulu problems that hulu is trying to change to a pay model. I was a bit reluctant to try hulu desktop, but I can vouch for it working. Why doesn't standard firefox work?
"NOT TECHNICAL, CONCERNS AND OPINIONS ARE BELOW THIS LINE" I'm wondering if there is a hulu alternative? I'm concerned that hulu will collect statistics on people who use it and I don't approve of easy access to "adult" movies. Watching these movies might constitute voting for them. Morally, I don't want to encourage the production of new "adult" films. Hulu is a nice outlet for catching more general audience shows and movies, but the shows available don't stop there. These "adult" movies aren't generally entertaining in my opinion, though they are addictive. I like Stargate Universe sometimes, but there have been a lot of sex scenes and they just ruin it IMO. I think Stargate Universe is almost a border case. The show isn't plot dependent on people having sex, though it comes close. Imagine you work and your boss knows that you watched Stargate Universe or worse HOTS, American Virgin, (insert sexually explicit movie available through hulu here). Now imagine that this boss is ultra conservative and has to form an opinion when a sexual harassment allegation surfaces against you. Somehow, I don't think your viewing choices on hulu replete with sexual immorality will help your case. I'm all for television being more interesting and possibly better for us, but I have major privacy and other ethical concerns regarding interactive television. As far as alternatives, I'm interested in a service that limits access to R rated and "Mature" or "Adult" films. I think a phone call to an actual human being should be the minimum requirement to watch R rated films online. Hulu doesn't even seem to have a filtering option that will drop "Adult" films from the title listings. Concerning privacy, I guess renting movies is safer than streaming them. I prefer a service that is of course Linux friendly and I value privacy, so I want the service provider to refrain from giving out records of what I stream. Records should be destroyed in 6 months or sooner. I think the decency laws should be updated to restrict streaming of copyrighted films that are R rated or "Adult" films. At the very least, you should be required to request them verbally from an actual human being and verify your age. I'm sure a lot of us would be reluctant to verbally ask for an R rated or "Adult" film whereas hulu allows people to watch them almost anonymously. People can lie about their age when they sign up for a hulu account, what's to stop them? As far as hulu recommending "adult" material because a lot of people view those shows and movies... I don't agree with that. The pushing of societal decay in one segment on another segment is just wrong. We are all sheep that need to be shepherded sometimes, not thrown to the wolves. To an extent an individual looks out for him/herself, but we need each other at some point. Decency should be promoted society wide, not ignored in the name of free speech. Hulu trusts people to be honest about their age and advertises "adult" media regardless of the potential viewer's values. Wanting to watch something because you are hormonal is very different from deciding that something fits your values and is appropriate viewing material. I prefer the latter over the former.
