I like your idea of having a partition dedicated to testing/upgrading. Last week I bought an Intel X25-g2 Solid State Drive (Which is simply amazing!) so I had to reconfigure my partitioning scheme for my home PC. Here is what I came up with...
/dev/sda1 = / (20GB) /dev/sda2 = /home (140GB) /dev/sdb1 = Bulk storage (~1.5TB) /dev/sdb2 = Swap (8GB at the end of the drive) /tmp is set up as RAMFS in order to minimize wear on my SSD For testing new OSs, I have always used either a Virtual Machine or I have a SATA removable drive bay that accepts bare drives and I have a old 250GB drive I toss in there and install to. I just set it at a higher boot priority in my BIOS so if it's installed at boot, it will be booted from. I highly recommend having a dedicated /home partition. It makes upgrades a snap and a nice consistent feel between OS versions. Just my $.03 worth (adjusted for current economy) Jason _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
