Bill/Frank/Wes: I think that I've found the problem: I've managed to let the Asus think it's connected to the 'NET via its WAN interface when it's only supposed to be node on the local network. I'll have to go through each setup page to see where I turn that off. More when I have it. Happy Thanksgiving, all.
