I've been using ClipGrab [1], a cross-platform GUI app that downloads from YouTube, DailyMotion, Vimeo and possibly a few other video sites. It's been working great on Ubuntu Lucid and Windows 7. In the past, I've used clive [2], a command-line tool that also works with multiple video sites. Can't speak to how the latter is working lately, but it worked fine in the past except for one period during which YouTube had made some changes that rendered clive useless. Those are a couple of non-browser specific options, if you want to keep away from browser plugins. Cheers, Michael M.
