That's what the 2 in e2fsck stands for.  There is a separate program for ext4 
systems:
mich...@bivy:~$ ls /sbin/fsck*
/sbin/fsck         /sbin/fsck.ext2  /sbin/fsck.ext4     /sbin/fsck.minix  
/sbin/fsck.nfs
/sbin/fsck.cramfs  /sbin/fsck.ext3  /sbin/fsck.ext4dev  /sbin/fsck.msdos  
/sbin/fsck.vfat


Use fsck.ext4 and see what the results are.
